Nikons new COOLPIX A….a DSLR in a compact body no less…

Nikon has made D-SLR performance in a compact body more accessible than ever before, incorporating a large, DX-format 16.2-megapixel CMOS sensor (23.6 x 15.6 mm) and an EXPEED 2 image processing engine into the new COOLPIX A, for capturing professional images on the go.

Meanwhile, the new COOLPIX P330 raises the standard for advanced compact cameras, with a bright f/1.8 NIKKOR 5x optical zoom lens, large back-illuminated 12-megapixel CMOS sensor (1/1.7-in.), advanced lens shift vibration reduction, Full HD movie recording, RAW (NRW) data processing and Wi-Fi compatibility (via an optional dongle).

James Loader, Product Manager for Consumer Products at Nikon UK, comments: “With an impressive high definition NIKKOR fixed wide-angle 28mm f/2.8 lens, DX-format CMOS sensor and high ISO capability, the COOLPIX A is an impressive camera that combines convenience with performance; making it ideal for reportage photography. Creative photographers will enjoy the creative effects of the P330 which delivers pin-sharp images in any light with its backlit, 1/1.7-in. CMOS sensor and full manual controls. Both new models are WiFi compatible, so high quality images can be uploaded via a dongle to any smart device for easy sharing*.”

The COOLPIX A — The professional choice of compact camera

Ideal for any photography enthusiast, the 16.2-megapixel COOLPIX A is the world’s smallest camera to feature a DX format sensor, and handles demanding shooting situations with ease. In pursuit of high resolution and high definition of the entire image, the COOLPIX A adopts a sensor unit that does not incorporate an optical low-pass filter. The result is an optical system that makes the most of the potential of the high-definition NIKKOR lens and the resolution of the DX-format sensor. Combined with the EXPEED 2 image processing engine, also used in DSLR models, the COOLPIX A guarantees superior performance and maximum image quality, all while consuming minimal energy.

When taking pictures in low light or capturing fast-moving subjects, a high ISO (100-6400, extendable to 25600) light sensitivity ensures superbly detailed images with minimal noise. When you want to control the quality of light, you can turn to the camera’s six different settings of active D-lighting, attach a compatible external Speedlight flash unit, or use the optional UR-E14 adaptor ring to create different effects by attaching lens filters (46mm) or an optional lens hood (HN-CP18) to reduce peripheral light.

Photographers used to shooting with digital SLR cameras may also enjoy using a traditional optional optical viewfinder for a clearer view, attachable via the hotshoe. Whatever light conditions you are shooting in, advanced Nikon lens technology ensures outstanding precision, sharp resolution and high contrast. The NIKKOR fixed wide-angle 18.5 mm f/2.8 lens (28mm equivalent) offers exceptional definition throughout the entire aperture range and all optical aberrations (e.g. spherical or coma) are minimised without the need for digital compensation. The seven blade rounded iris diaphragm reduces light where necessary and gives beautifully natural background blur.

Full creative control

PSAM exposure modes enable greater creative control, and two user modes let you recall your preferred camera settings instantly. A customisable function button means you can bypass the menu and set shortcuts to your favourite camera settings for fast setup, and the lens focusing ring enables manual focus and manual override when in Auto focus mode.

The COOLPIX A also supports 14 bits compressed RAW (NEF) image data, conveniently in line with the format used in DSLRs. Pure, unprocessed images can be edited in-camera, on the large 7.5-cm (3.0-in. 921k dot) LCD monitor. Picture Control allows you to adjust the contrast and colour settings (Standard, Neutral, Vivid, Monochrome, Portrait, Landscape, and Custom) to match your situation. For those who want to have some fun with their images, photos can be enhanced on the spot with a wide range of filter effects such as Selective Colour mode, which converts images to monochrome and then adds a splash of the colour of your choice.

P330 — An exceptional performer

Worthy of any serious photographer looking for portability with performance, the COOLPIX P330 has a bright NIKKOR 5x optical zoom lens (24–120mm) which offers fast f/1.8 aperture at wide angle, HRI glass and a seven blade iris diaphragm for natural background blur, while a Neutral Density filter enables greater exposure control.

A highly sensitive, backlit, 1/1.7-in. 12-megapixel CMOS sensor produces superb results in all manner of tough shooting situations, while Nikon’s second-generation vibration reduction system reduces the effect of camera shake in real time, allowing the use of shutter speeds up to four stops slower. A new Active mode ensures clear shots even from moving vehicles.

Give full expression to your creative side in manual mode and access your favourite setting instantly with the ergonomic function button. To shoot movies, Full HD (1080p/60i) filming is available at the touch of a button, at 60, 50, 30 or 25 fps and it’s also possible to shoot in RAW (NRW) format. You can use the optical zoom with autofocus when recording, and film in slow or fast motion using speeds of up to 120 fps.

Creative features like Macro mode allow you to focus on subjects really close-up to capture the smallest of details, while Easy Panorama 360°/180° makes capturing breathtaking vistas as simple as panning the camera vertically or horizontally to take in the view.

For travellers on the go, a built-in Global Positioning System (GPS) records the exact location (latitude and longitude) of images as a ‘geotag’, and allows review of point-of-interest (POI) information in playback. To share adventures with friends and family, the camera’s Wi-Fi capability enables the transfer of high-quality images and movies to a smart device* via an optional Wi-Fi dongle (WU-1a).

Additional Key Features of the COOLPIX A

Wi-Fi compatible: use Wi-Fi to transfer your high-quality images and movies to your smart device* via an optional Wi-Fi dongle (WU-1a).

Auto HDR mode: capture images with impressive tonal detail in any situation when you shoot in HDR mode. The camera combines two shots taken at different exposures during a single shutter release to create an image with wide dynamic range and rich color gradation.
High-speed continuous shooting: shoot up to 10 full-resolution shots at 10 fps, or up to 30 full-resolution shots at 1 fps.
Fast and accurate AF: when you want to capture complex subjects, you can shoot with a 99-point autofocus system for extra-sharp results.
Subject Tracking AF: capture sharp shots of subjects that can’t or won’t stay still. Subject Tracking AF keeps the camera focused on the selected subject even if it is moving around.
Retouch menu: enhance your photos on the spot with a wide range of filter effects. Examples include Selective Color, which converts your image to monochrome and then adds a splash of the color of your choice, while Cross Screen adds a starry effect to bright objects.
20 scene modes: automatically optimize the camera settings for popular photographic styles, effects and locations. Achieve great shots just by selecting the mode that matches your situation.

Combining Canon’s brand new DIGIC 6 image processing technology with a 20x optical zoom, these models are the ideal travel companions for recording everything from panoramic landscapes to family holidays, in stunning detail and Full HD 60p video.   PowerShot SX280 HS                             PowerShot SX270 HS

Incredible performance with DIGIC 6

At the heart of both models is Canon’s next generation DIGIC 6 image processor, enabling the capture of outstanding images in even the lowest of light conditions, as well as realistically smooth, Full HD movies at up to 60fps. Whether at a party or under moonlight, new DIGIC 6 ensures pictures are low on noise and perfectly-exposed, with up to 30 per cent more detail captured than the models’ predecessors, without the need to use a flash or tripod.

The HS System pairs the new DIGIC 6 processor with a 12.1 Megapixel high-sensitivity CMOS sensor to deliver exceptional images in low light, with minimal blur and noise, as well as wide dynamic range – perfect for capturing shadowy detail as the sun sets on holiday. Using the DIGIC 6 processor and HS System, users can enjoy shooting with incredible ISO sensitivity, up to ISO 6400, with outstanding results.

Using DIGIC 6, movies are recorded in the widely-compatible MP4 format, and can be played on a range of portable devices – providing the ability to share recordings quickly and easily with family and friends, without the need for lengthy file conversions.

Get closer to the action with super zoom

The PowerShot SX280 HS and PowerShot SX270 HS are ideal for every precious family and holiday moment, thanks to the 25mm wide-angle 20x optical zoom Canon lens with a 4-stop optical Image Stabilizer (IS). ZoomPlus technology even digitally extends the reach of the zoom to 40x whilst maintaining crisp, detailed, high-quality resolution, allowing users to get even closer to the action whilst maintaining a discrete distance.

Keep track of your travels; sharing made easy

The PowerShot SX280 HS’s Wi-Fi function allows users to share their most memorable moments with friends and family by transmitting their stunning images to social networks, connected devices, or the internet for online back-up.

Ideal for travellers who wish to track their route effortlessly, or remember the exact location of a perfect shot, the PowerShot SX280 HS’s inbuilt GPS automatically tags each picture or movie with the local time and pinpoints the location in which it was taken. The integrated GPS logger function tracks the location of the camera at regular intervals on a journey, while A-GPS functionality uses Wi-Fi to quickly download additional Assisted GPS data, which greatly decreases the time to acquire a satellite signal.

Switch from stills to movies with Full HD capture

Users can quickly switch from still images to movies to record action in Full HD quality (1920x1080p) with stereo sound. Advanced 60p recording allows a new level of movie performance, with the ability to capture fast paced action with improved smoothness across the whole scene. Fine Detail Movie Processing technology (30 fps) offers incredible detail, while DIGIC 6 offers enhanced noise processing in Full HD movies (30fps), allowing users to capture every moment.

The huge 20x optical zoom can also be used whilst filming. Movies shot on the move are kept crisp and blur-free thanks to the latest version of Intelligent IS, which features an enhanced Dynamic IS mode. The improved mode employs a five-axis Image Stabilizer, correcting a range of additional types of camera shake, including rotational and parallel shake – a typical occurrence when filming whilst walking – for even smoother footage.

Whether on a family holiday or the trip of a lifetime, travellers can easily frame and review their recordings on the bright 7.5 cm (3.0”) PureColor II G LCD screen with approximately 461,000 dots. A tempered glass layer provides additional strength and protection, and high contrast also combines with Quick Bright technology to make the display perfect for movie playback in bright sunlight.

Capture every moment creatively

The PowerShot SX280 HS and PowerShot SX270 HS make it easy to point and shoot with confidence, offering Canon’s acclaimed Smart Auto mode which detects up to 58 different scenes to determine the most appropriate settings to achieve the best possible result.

Combining creative flexibility with high quality images, both the PowerShot SX280 HS and PowerShot SX270 HS feature new Hybrid Auto mode which records the four seconds before every shot in 720p resolution, before using Smart Auto to determine the best settings to capture the perfect shot. At the end of each day, the four-second clips are merged into one to tell the “behind-the-scenes” story of the day’s images. Stills can also be transformed by using one of seven different Creative Filters, including Fish-eye Effect and Miniature Effect.

More ambitious and experienced photographers, or those wanting to develop their photography skills, can also take complete control of their camera settings. Using the range of more advanced modes, including Tv and Av modes to control shutter speed and aperture, or full manual mode to control all settings, users can explore their creativity and improve their knowledge with these powerful, compact cameras.

CHROMOTECTURE – Architectural Photography Competition

Homemade Dessert is excited to invite you once more to participate in their architectural photography competitions. This time they would like you to think about COLOR IN ARCHITECTURE.
Color has a tremendous influence on human emotions. As Picasso once said, colors, like features, follow the changes of emotions. Although, and while perception of color is somewhat subjective, there are some color effects that have a universal influence on people. These scientific principles of color are known as chromotherapy and have been used as a form of alternative medicine since Egyptian civilization.
Whether it is used as a conceptual trigger of a project or introduced in the middle of a process to reconfigure the perception of some material or space, the truth is that color has its particular psychological function, either perceptive or systematic.
the Homemade Dessert team is expecting to receive images of spaces where this dual ability of colors, in both rational and emotional outcomes, can be observed and felt.
Eligibility: This is an international architectural photography competition and it is open for all.
Registration Deadline: July 10, 2013
Submission Deadline: July 15, 2013
Entry Fee: US$ 25
Awards:

  • Juries’ favorite: US$ 1000
  • Readers’ favorite: US$ 500

“The Myth of Ferrari – Photography by Günther Raupp”

Völklingen Ironworks is where the works of art by the famous Ferrari photographer Günther Raupp are being presented in the bygone world of heavy industry. An exhibition resembling a natural phenomenon.

hasselblad_ferrari-raupp_2_preview

The lifeblood of Italy meets long chilled steel. Elegant Ferrari photos in impressive large formats of up to 160 cm in width and ten original Ferraris from private collectors are on show between giant blowers that supplied the air for the blast furnaces of Völklingen Ironworks from 1900 onwards. In this unique European industrial monument – founded in 1873, decommissioned in 1986 and declared a world cultural heritage site by UNESCO in 1994 – everything revolves around Ferrari

.hasselblad_ferrari-raupp_1_preview

The exhibition entitled “The Myth of Ferrari” located in the Blower Hall is showing 53 photographic works by Günther Raupp – whose Official Ferrari Wall Calendar has long since achieved cult status during its almost 30 years of production. “My photo exhibition in the World Cultural Heritage Site at Völklingen offers visual experiences in unaccustomed dimensions,” explains the artist, describing the event. And, during the exhibition’s opening on 22 September, Uwe Meissner of Modena Motorsport did indeed start up his Formula 1 Ferrari among the 1,500 or so guests. Following in the series of sound experiences at the Raupp exhibition on 3 October was a grand night of Italian opera.

hasselblad_ferrari-raupp_3_preview

The Ferrari F12berlinetta, which adorns April in the Ferrari Calendar 2013, is the backdrop to the stage – a photo taken with the H3D-50 for the print format of 9 x 27 metres! “The picture formats on display are of course the ultimate touchstone for the camera format. Yet even the XXL stage backdrop produced no surprises,” admits Hasselblad photographer Günther Raupp. “The theme of Ferrari and my own aspirations allow no compromises at all here.”

hasselblad_ferrari-raupp_5_preview

More than 30,000 visitors have already seen the exhibition. “We are very pleased that the exhibition ‘The Myth of Ferrari – Photography by Günther Raupp’ has proved to a real attraction for the public,” says Prof. Dr Meinrad Grewenig, General Director of the World Cultural Heritage Site at the Völklingen Ironworks. In the wake of this success, the exhibition by Günther Raupp is being extended for a further three months until 24 March 2013.

hasselblad_ferrari-raupp_4_preview

Thanks to the exhibition in the World Cultural Heritage Site at Völklingen, the Ferrari pictures by Günther Raupp are finally establishing their status as works of art. “Interest amongst collectors is increasing all the time. This applies not only to individual images but also to whole groups of pictures,” the artist explains.
